Intel Core i9-7980XE Extreme Edition 18-Core Processor Now Available on NextComputing Portable Workstations and Compact Servers

nextcomputingCompany News

NextComputing, renowned designers of innovative, portable workstations and compact servers for users requiring intensive compute power, announce the addition of the Intel® Core™ i9-7980XE Extreme Edition processor, boasting an unprecedented 18 cores, to multiple models of its portable workstation, compact server and ruggedized portable lines of high-performance computers.

NextComputing incorporates a number of Intel® Core™ X-series processors into its power packed systems, known for their small size. The Intel Core i9-7980XE with 18 cores, Intel® Core™ i9-7900X with 10 cores, Intel® Core™ i7-7820X with 8 cores, and the Intel® Core™ i7-7800X with 6 cores, are each available on the Radius Live, Radius EDS, Radius EDS Plus portable workstations, Nucleus 2U and 3U dense rackmounts, as well as the Vigor EDS ruggedized portable.

The Intel Core i9-7980XE stands at the top of the new X-series CPU line-up. This extreme-performance processor features 18-cores with a base frequency of 2.60GHz, a max turbo frequency of up to 4.20GHz and a Turbo Boost Max 3.0 speed of 4.40GHz. It has 24.75MB L3 cache and 1MB L2 cache per core, a result of the cache restructuring on each of Intel’s 14nm Skylake-X architecture CPUs.

Most notable is the availability of the XE processor on the Radius line up of portable workstations. There are currently few desktop computers on the market that incorporate this 18-core performance monster. Unheard of is a portable version.

The Radius Live is an all-in-one portable workstation custom designed for broadcast and media applications. Radius Live also offers a unique design with low-noise fans and a quiet power supply for noise-sensitive production environments. With 5 PCIe slots and extensive storage options, the Radius Live with Intel Core i9-7980XE 18-core processor powers through applications such as live 360 stitching, event production, presentation capture, digital content creation and video post production.

The Radius EDS makes use of i9-7980XE’s 18 cores by combining it with massive storage for high-volume data processing. The combination is perfect for data-intensive industries like cybersecurity, data capture, and big data analytics.

Radius EDS Plus has all the features of the Radius EDS with the addition of 1+1 or 2+1 redundant power with inputs for working from AC or DC power to open up new possibilities for mobile applications with alternate power sources.

The three Radius systems currently constitute the only portable options incorporating the unprecedented 18-core Intel Core i9-7980XE.

At a 17” depth, the Nucleus 2U and Nucleus 3U rackmounts are ideal for small racks or for easy transit. The Intel Core i9 X-series optimizes multiple data crunching and  compute-intensive applications that the Nucleus rackmounts are built for.

The Intel Core X-series processors are also available on the Vigor EDS rugged portable workstation. Integrated monitor and dual-chassis design featuring a shock-mounted internal chassis suspended in a rugged chassis make Vigor EDS ideal for mobile applications in harsher environments where system durability is a priority.
